Most importantly, First Baptist Church of Lowry City exists as a New Testament church to proclaim the salvation made possible only through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Sin separates us from God our Creator.   This lack of a relationship with God is what the Bible calls being "lost", "condemned", and "unrighteous".   To be "lost" means we are helpless in our own strength to repair our relationship to God.  God desires a relationship with you and is able to save you based upon the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Jesus died for your sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, and He rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

That work is called the "gospel of Christ".  Upon the strength of that great work alone of Christ the Savior, God can and will save you.  Listen to how clearly the Bible says so. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek" (Romans 1:16). Yes! Upon the strength of the finished redemptive work of Christ, God can save you from sin’s penalty. He will forgive you and give you eternal life with Him.

Just how do you make the gospel of Christ your own?  It’s a matter of faith, of belief in Him. "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him" (John 3:36).

In Acts 16 a man asked a simple question: "What must I do to be saved?" The Bible's answer for him was the same as it is for all of us today: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved," (Acts 16:30,31)  Notice it is NOT "believe+baptism" or "believe+church affiliation", in fact, adding anything to the Bible's requirement makes salvation of man, not of God!

Most people read Acts 16 and figure since they believe that Jesus was a historical character they are OK with God.  They believe in Jesus Christ in the same way they believe in Abraham Lincoln or George Washington.  However, "believe" as used in Acts 16 and other New Testament passages does NOT mean to merely believe the historical facts about something, rather, the Greek word for "believe' means "to trust, to rely upon."  Why is the word meaning for "believe" so important?  We cannot "trust or rely upon" Abe Lincoln or George Washington to help us because they are dead, they are powerless to do anything for us.  The good news is Jesus Christ arose from the dead, is ALIVE, and will save all who will "trust & rely upon" Him alone for their salvation!

A simple illustration of "believing" vs. "trusting":
In 1859, a tight-rope walker named the Great Blondin crossed Niagara Falls and asked the crowd on one side of the falls if they believed he could carry a man on his shoulders safely across to the other side.  Many in the crowd said they knew he could do it, but none were willing to accept his offer.  Finally, a man in the crowd (his manager) trusted him to take him to the other side.  He not only believed the Great Blondin could do it, but he actually climbed on his shoulders, and was carried safely across.  Many "believed", but only one "trusted."   The same is true regarding Jesus Christ, many today believe he died on the cross and rose again,  but few trust Him to save them from their sin!  Below is an actual photo of the Great Blondin carrying his manager, Harry Colcord, across Niagara Falls in 1859:
      Prayer Hand
See how the man's total hope is upon the Great Blondin to deliver him across safely!

The Bible tells us that until you believe (trust, depend upon) on Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, you are lost and destined for eternal damnation (separated from God for all eternity)…regardless of whatever else you do.  You can pray, be baptized, go to church regularly, give to charity, quit smoking, clean up your life and be a model of good behavior; but until you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your own personal Savior, you are not a part of God's family.  It is not praying a prayer, feeling sorry, or doing a number of good deeds that results in salvation; it is faith alone in Christ alone: "for there is no other name under heaven whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Jesus said: "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no man can come unto the Father but by me." (John 14:6)   God promises no salvation to those who sincerely believe in anyone other than the Lord Jesus Christ.

Right where you are at your computer reading this, won’t you quit trusting in your religion, your family heritage, or your good outweighing your bad and begin trusting the Lord Jesus Christ to save you?  Jesus is alive and willing to save you from sin’s penalty the moment you make Him your sole hope of salvation!
